Looking for beautiful and inspirational wall decor for your home? This DIY Pallet Wood Sign is simple to make and shares such a beautiful message. Today I’ll show you how to make your own.
I have been dying to make a DIY Pallet Wood Sign for a while but I wanted the perfect saying. Something that would be positive and mean something to our family as we walked past it each day. I was perusing the wood connection blog (I used their cute frames for my gallery wall) and they did a wood sign project with this saying and it struck me like a ton of bricks. It was PERFECT! Exactly what I was looking for. So I got busy and went to work. This post contains affiliate links.

I LOVE this!! I have a pallet sitting in my garage (it screamed my name as it was sitting by a dumpster) and now I have an idea of how to use it! This is LOVELY! I think it is perfect! I would be so happy if you would share it at my first ever linky party! http://www.therusticpig.com/2012/09/my-first-linky-party.html
Blooming Homestead says
Thanks so much, I went and linked up!
Abbie says
I was just staring at a pile of pallets waiting for new homes the other day. This is a lovely idea!
Blooming Homestead says
Thanks! I was very happy with how it turned out.
Courtney says
This is the perfect project for a spot in my living room! What size font did you use? I know all fonts are different but I would like a starting off point 🙂
When I get mine done and post it on my blog I will link to your tutorial. Thanks for sharing!
Blooming Homestead says
Hi, the main font size for the believe and good in was 477. I sized the other ones down, but not sure of the exact sizes of those. I just kept measuring and guessing and finally found a size that worked!
Blooming Homestead says
Oh…just realized I gave you the wrong font size! Sorry, I am going to put up a tutorial today with the correct font sizes and everything!
the Kauls says
Love the color combos. What color is the wall behind?
Blooming Homestead says
Thanks, the color is a custom color from home depot. It is the main color all over my house from when we bought it but the ratio on top says (and I have no idea what this means…) CLRNT: 384th, B: 38, C:117, F: 8. I can send you a pic of the top label to take in if you need it. Just let me know. 🙂
the Kauls says
I would love a pic of the top label. Its just the color i have been searching for!

Blooming Homestead says
Thank you!
Julie Kelley says
Oh my goodness, this is so perfect!! What a fabulous sign!
Blooming Homestead says
Thanks!
The Girl Creative says
What a great piece! I love the colors. 🙂 I always try to use contact paper or whatever for stencils but I think the card stock works great (and probably much easier to manage!). xoxo
Blooming Homestead says
Yeah, because of the roughness of the pallet and its work surface I am pretty sure contact paper wouldn’t have stuck so the cardstock worked out surprisingly well!
Jane says
Love it!
Blooming Homestead says
Thanks!
Jane says
This is my first time at your blog. It is great and I plan on being a regular! What is the size of the overall sign and what are the size of your letters?
Thank you!!!
Blooming Homestead says
Okay, here are the dimensions:
Height: 27 3/4″, Width: 40″
Believe is 6 1/2″, there is was roughly 4 1/2, good in was 5″, & the world was 3 3/4″.
Marty Walden says
You did a great job! I am a huge fan of pallet projects (we’ve done a few) and I can’t wait to show this to hubby!

Blooming Homestead says
Thanks. I really do love it. I have had several people ask about me making them to sell, but they are so heavy shipping would be so costly! LOL

Wow, this sign turned out absolutely beautiful! You did a great job! It’s so exciting to turn old wood into something so creative! I’ve made one pallet wall hanging and that was for a gift…I think I’ll have to put on my creative hat and get back at it. 🙂
Keep up the great work!

Christy Little says
This is fabulous and what an appropriate saying for this day and age! Love it!!
Andrea Mette says
Can you share what the paint colors/brand are you used for the quote?
Thanks!
Andrea
Blooming Homestead says
Yes, I used basic craft paint in white and the yellow was called sunny day. Both were the brand apple barrel…I think I got them at walmart.
Kaitlin Doerfler says
Is this hanging from a stud in the wall or in sheetrock? I want to make it but I’m afraid it will be too heavy to hang….any tips?
Blooming Homestead says
It is hung in the drywall via a pretty narly anchor that says it will hold up to 75 lbs. So far it is holding well, but yep…its very heavy!
Kimberly T. says
I’ve pinned this saying before wanting to make something with it, now you’ve given me the perfect thing. I love this! I’m just hoping my husband will go for it – he doesn’t get the old wood thing either. 🙂
Blooming Homestead says
Good luck…I love it everytime I walk past it. Still hasn’t grown on the hubby though!
ibcruzing says
When it grows on the hubby, he will have then seen the light. And will be better for it. <3
ibcruzing says
This is wonderful. Not just the sign but the message. Thank you for this.
Artsy Chick says
I love this!! I wish I had some old pallets laying around!
Aunt B says
I like both the saying and the sign very much. I am hoping to write a blog post this week on charitable giving and was hoping that I might use one of your photos from this post as a title illustration (with a link back here, of course). Would that be alright with you?
Blooming Homestead says
As long as you credit and link back I don’t mind. Thank you for asking!
Aunt B says
Thank you so much. You can find the post at http://awordfromauntb.blogspot.ca/2012/11/charitable-giving-on-budget.html

Um Marie,
I thought we were friends, how on EARTH did I not KNOW you had a blog! You humble thing you! I actually have been coveting this since you showed it to me and got on Pinterest to see if I could find something similar for inspiration. When I stumbled across this pic that looked VERY familiar! Could you just please sell these babies? LOVE IT!
Liz B
Blooming Homestead says
LOL Liz, because I am lame and kind of embarrassed about it! It was funny though, it took about a year before my sister stumbled across it and she was like…”hey, this lady copies everything Marie does and steals her pictures…lol”. Then she finally realized it was me. 🙂 I’m just lame like that and its fun to blog without it being too “serious”. 🙂
Patrick says
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing! Did you have to treat/clean the wood before applying the paint?
Marie bloominghomestead says
Patrick, I did not treat the wood and it was pretty clean when I started dismantling the pallets, however I have heard that you need to be careful when using pallets in your projects. Since this was a personal project…I wasn’t quite as concerned.
THE COOKS says
Love this!! I’ll be featuring it on my blog tomorrow. 🙂 xoxo

Did you sand down the wood?
Marie bloominghomestead says
I did not sand down the wood. I really LOVED the texture so I kept it as is.
Laura Beth says
What font did you use?
Marie bloominghomestead says
It was called Bookman Old Style. 🙂
Katie says
This is so lovely and that is the perfect inspirational quote without being too sappy. I saw a picture of this on Pinterest a few months ago, but the actual link was broken. I’ve been searching the web for the original project for months, and I FINALLY FOUND IT! Thank you for putting up this tutorial, I’ve got my eye out for pallets now!
Marie bloominghomestead says
Yah! I am glad you found me! I know how that goes when you search and search! lOL

Interesting blog. You have given us all a message that there exists some goodness in us so be the good:)
vistagirl123 says
I love the sign but was wondering what color your walls are painted. I’m remodeling my house right now and have been looking all over for the perfect neutral. THanks for any info
Marie bloominghomestead says
Hi, I am not sure of the paint name, I only have a custom mix label and I shared it on my facebook page. You should be able to find it here, you can take it to the paint store and they can match it!

Sarah Nyquist says
Random question 🙂 do you mind sharing your wall color you used?
Sarah Nyquist says
Do you mind sharing the wall color you used? It looks very fresh with the white trim !
Marie bloominghomestead says
Hi Sarah, I don’t mind sharing at all. It is actually a custom color from Home Depot. I posted a pic of the top of the paint can with the formula so you can take it in a match it if you like. Here is the link https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=380411582038680&set=a.352655764814262.84640.338434549569717&type=1&theater
One Creative Momma says
Marie,
I am amazed that you were able to dismantle that pallet. I took a swing at one in my garage this afternoon in hopes of creating a similar sign and there was NO WAY I was going to get that thing dismantled! Kudos to you for ripping it apart on your own!
The sign is adorable. I love the saying and the colors. Maybe someday I will figure out how to make one of my own without taking apart a pallet!
Jen
http://www.1creativemomma.blogspot.com
Marie bloominghomestead says
Thanks Jen…and yes dismantling pallets is so NOT easy!! I had no idea when I started how difficult it really would be. I finally got a technique going with 2 huge hammers and it still took me several hours.
Katie Surly says
Love your blog! I linked my blog back to yours on a similar project 🙂 You can check it out here http://decoratemylife.com/how-to-make-a-wood-sign/ Thanks for the inspiration!
Kelly @ Here Comes the Sun says
This is a beautiful sign! I love the colors that you chose and I like how you left the wood unpainted. I’m currently working on a pallet sign and hope it turns out as good as yours!
Marie bloominghomestead says
Yes, I loved the wood ‘as is’. So much character!
san says
I am considering trying to recreate this sign as I love love love it and was just thinking that maybe it would be easier to do the stencil on big poster board? This way it would keep the words together since the silhouette will cut without a mat as well as cut pretty much any length i think (I’m new to using it). I would just need to cut the width of the paper to the size of the letters. I’m excited to get started. Thanks for sharing!
Marie bloominghomestead says
Good thinking…I am sure you could get that to work! I just used what I had, but cutting down some poster board to keep the width the same would be a great idea!
Pam @ This House Our Home says
I love the Quote! and the fact that you make it into pallet art makes it even better. You might just have inspired me to make my own 🙂
Julie says
LOVELY! This is definitely on my “To Do” list. Random question: where did you get the little slide calendar pictured on the desk? It’s so cute!
Marie bloominghomestead says
Thank you! I got the calendar at TJ Maxx.
Tiffany Salas says
Found this on Pinterest and I absolutely LOVE it. I also was wondering if you happen to sell your stencils? As I do not own a silhouette either.
Marie says
Sorry, I don’t sell the stencil. 🙁
Janeal Hall says
It’s fun to have finally found the original creative mind behind one of my all-time favorite pins. I’ve been wanting to make a super-sized version of this forever, and now I have the perfect barn wood for it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Marie says
Hi Janeal, I am so glad you found me! I’d love to see yours when you finish it!
EthanValazquez says

I hardly comment, but i did a few searching and wound up here DIY Pallet Wood Sign. And I do have a couple of questions for you if it’s allright. Could it be just me or does it look like a few of these remarks appear as if they are coming from brain dead individuals? 😛 And, if you are writing at other online social sites, I’d like to keep up with anything new you have to post. Could you make a list of all of your public sites like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
Marie says
Thanks for visiting, all my social media are linked in the right sidebar. 🙂
Val says
Are you by any chance making these to sell? If so I am interested!
Marie says
Sorry Val, at this time I am not making them for purchase.
Hope masters says
love it! but i also love the desk underneath the sign, can you tell me where it was purchased from? thanks!
Marie says
Hi Hope, I actually diy’d the desk I found from salvation army. You can see the makeover at http://www.bloominghomestead.com/2011/07/desk-re-do.html
Kay says
Adorable! I love your crisp letters. What painting technique did your sister use? Sponging, air spray, roller?
Marie says
Hi Kay, she did a spongeing technique with a sponge brush, it definitely prevents bleeding. I used the same process here if you want to take a look http://www.bloominghomestead.com/2015/06/patriotic-pallet-sign.html
Susie says
What font is that?
Marie says
Hi Susie, to be honest I can’t quite remember. I made this sign about 5 1/2 years ago, but it was a standard free font. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.
Kate says
I love DIY project–and the colors are perfect!
