October is almost here and I’ve got some cute Halloween projects to share with you. Today’s DIY Halloween Countdown is so easy to make and the whole family will love it. I can’t wait until we get into the new house and get our Halloween decor including this fun countdown all set out.
Here are the supplies you’ll need:
- Wood Plaque- 8 1/2 x 11 x1/2
- Chalkboard Paint
- brush or sponge
- chalk
- glue gun
- mdf word “halloween” (can be found at hobby lobby Halloween isle)
- Spider accent
- White vinyl & craft cutter (optionl)
OPTIONAL CANVAS MOUNT
- 16×20 blank canvas
- painters tape
- black paint
Step 1: Paint your plaque using chalkboard paint and brush. Use several coats. Let it dry between each coat. If you are going to mount your plaque on canvas, you can tape off stripes on your canvas and paint stripes to dry. (I re-used an old project so I don’t have a photo of this step.)
Step 2: After the paint has dried, cut out your vinyl words. If you don’t have a vinyl cutter you can paint them freehand or use chalk since its all chalkboard. I used a basic font and cut out the words “days” and “until”. I laid out the “Halloween” and eyeballed the size of lettering and where I wanted to apply it. When you have your placement ready, you can apply them to the plaque.
Step 3: Using hot glue, glue on MDF Halloween word in the center of plaque.
Add any embellishments you have.
Step 5: Now you can use chalk to season the chalkboard where you will write your countdown.
OPTIONAL Step 6: If you would like to mount the plaque on the canvas, you can hot glue it directly to the painted canvas.
Now you’re ready to countdown to Halloween! I love how it turned out and my son thinks it is so fun to write on each day. 🙂
