Looking for a fun Easter idea? Today I am sharing this pretty and super simple DIY Colorblock Easter Basket tutorial. If you are like me and have some plain old baskets lying around then this is a fun way to repurpose them. Plus, I’ve got free printable tags you can download too!
Easter is just under a week away and it also is falling during our kids Spring Break. The kids and I will be going away to the grandparents house for the break and I wanted to make a fun surprise basket to leave for my husband since he is staying home to work. I gathered a few of his favorite things and put them together with this cute printable tag and we are going to hide it when we leave with some clues for him to find. 🙂
Here are the supplies you need to make a DIY Colorblock Easter Basket:
- basket
- spray paint
- painters tape
- garbage bag
Step 1:
You’ll prep your basket by taping it off with painters tape. If you have a tight weave basket you probably don’t need to line the inside, but since my basket was a loose weave I didn’t want paint everywhere so I taped off the interior of the basket.
Step 2: You’ll wrap the bag around the handles and top of the basket and tape it down in a straight line for the ‘colorblock’ effect. This will protect and mask off the areas you don’t want painted. Make sure you get your tape positioned evenly around the basket for a straight line.
Step 3: Spray paint the exposed areas of the basket.
Step 4: When the basket is dry, remove the tape.
Step 5: Time for the fun part of adding goodies! I headed out to Walmart and hit up the Easter aisles for some fun goodies including M&M’s® Easter Sundae (excluseivly at Walmart for a limited time), M&M’s® Milk Chocolate, DOVE® Milk Chocolate Easter Bunny, DOVE® Solid Milk Chocolate Bunny, Skittles® tube and Skittles® egg, Starburst® Jellybeans, 23.5oz Easter Mixed Brand Chocolates (package includes SNICKERS®, DOVE®, M&M’s®, TWIX®, MILKY WAY®, 3 Musketeers®) and Hubba Bubba® $1 Bubble Tape, and a polo shirt and favorite dvd.
I think he’s going to be pretty excited!
When the basket was all packed up, I cut out this Easter Gift Tag and attached it with bakers twine. Click to download your own Hoppy Easter Printable Tags by Blooming Homestead.
That’s it! A super simple and fun Easter gift idea. Here’s another idea: I also grabbed some of these fun M&M’s® Easter Tri Packs for an Easter egg hunt, they are the perfect size for filling plastic eggs!
